American Plum – Prunus americana

$15.00

This is a native plum tree to Vermont and bears prolific fruit. The small abundant fruits make great plum sauce and jam. Grows as a small shrub to medium sized tree reaching 15 feet in height, bears fragrant white flowers in spring and produces yellow to red fruit mid summer about an inch in diameter. This native plum also provides excellent pollinator habitat for bees, moths and butterflies.

A note from our supplier: “The native American plum is a great native plant that will grow anywhere except in wet locations. It puts on a thorough flower show each spring of light pink to white blossoms followed by fruit that is enjoyed by all. The fruit is smaller than store plums but usually very good for sauces and jams. These native American seedling plum trees also make a good screen or hedge as they grow a  thick  network of branches and do not seem to mind being close to each other. They are extremely winter hardy and very easy to grow!”

Cross pollination required! Best to purchase 2 trees. Can be pollinated with other fruit bearing trees if they flower at the same time.
