Red Cedar – Juniperus Virginiana

Red Cedar is an evergreen tree that grows up to 50 ft. high and has an 8-20 ft. spread. It is tolerant of a wide variety of soils and climates, drought resistant, and grows best in open areas with at least six hours of direct sunlight. Its fruit is gray or bluish-green and resembles a cone, which is used to flavor gin. Red Cedar is a host plant for several larval butterflies and moths, and its seed is eaten by many birds.
